Further Study

Step 1

Email your educational tour operator

Your Educational Tour Operator (ETO) is the person or company in your country that arranged for you to come and study at ELC Bristol. Sometimes they will have specialist knowledge or advisors who can help you with UK university applications. If your ETO cannot help, or if you came to us directly or through an embassy, then go to step 2.

Step 2

Talk to the Vice-Principal or Director of Studies at ELC

Use the chart below to check your current IELTS level. You generally need an IELTS score of 6.5 before going to University or 5.5 if you wish to take a foundation or pre-sessional course. Based on our students’ results, it takes around 12 weeks of full-time study to improve your IELTS score by 1 point.

The Vice-Principal or Director of Studies can advise you of the following:

  • If and when you can join the IELTS class
  • When and where you can take the exam

If you are ready to choose your university and course, the Vice-Principal or Director of Studies will set up a meeting to help you with the process.

Step 3

Academic Counselling with SiUK

After your meeting, we will arrange for a counsellor at SiUK to contact you. SiUK offer free* professional academic counselling and can help you with the following:

  • Choosing the best university and course to meet your needs
  • Writing your personal statement
  • Help completing university application forms
  • Advice on which offer to accept

*Advice for Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees is free but there will be a small charge for PhDs, due to the complexity of the application process.
